It's such a gorgeous day today! As a Monday, and as always, I just want to be comfy, but look cute. Today I just want to throw on my White + Warren, grey, cashmere, zip up hoodie, $295, with my DL1961 jeans in mariner because they are so flattering with their 4 way stretch and are the perfect fall shade, clean with no distressing $158, my Muubaa red vintage, distressed lambs leather jacket $550, most gorgeous fall color ever!, and my black lace up booties with buckles that I wear everyday without fail. Of course, my hair is getting thrown up in a bun in a messy top knot, can't forget a minimal cat eye liner on the eye-lid and I'm ready to go! This is the perfect, comfy, easy, stress free, and stylish Monday fall look!

Style icons: Nicole Richie, Alexa Chung, Selena Gomez, Emma Watson, and Olivia Palermo (thanks to our PR Intern Sara, I have become officially obsessed with her recently) – Since I love to take style ideas from so many different people, it is hard to just pick a few as my "favorites"!

My closet: It is full of every kind of style of clothing you could imagine, but my particular obsession are boots, big sweaters, long necklaces, scarves, and easy maxi dresses, the kind of stuff you can just throw on and be comfortable in but still look chic and put together. In regards to color, I am a big neutrals fan, but I definitely like to throw in a splash of color to everything I wear.

Favorite blog/website: I love to check out www.lookbook.nu everyday and get fun ideas for outfits I could try. I also love Jessica Quirk’s “What I Wore” blog because she attended Indiana University, just like I am currently doing, and I love her personal taste and fashion advice.

Favorite MISHA NICOLE item I have purchased: Now I know that the intern in the previous blog entry (Sara) already said this was one of her favorites, but I just can't not talk about this great piece. My Butter by Nadia jumpsuit! It is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made! It is the best, most versatile and easy thing that you can just throw on and you immediately look put together and ready for anything, whether it be walking around the city shopping or going to a nice event at night. And because you can wear it in so many different styles, it is like buying 20 different outfits for the price of one. Completely worth every penny and I see myself wearing it for years to come.

Favorite MISHA NICOLE item I have been eyeing all summer: I have not been able to stop thinking about the Twenty Cluny Asymmetrical Dress. It is so fun and hugs your body in all the right places. I still haven’t decided but I might just have to buy it before I leave this city!

Favorite MISHA NICOLE brand: Because I was working here during the summer season, I was immediately attracted to all of the Yumi Kim pieces that we brought into the store. They were all so bright and fun while also being so beautiful that you don't need to add much else to complete your outfit. I bought three pieces, the Yumi top, the Goddess dress, and the Liz romper. I have worn them all and have gotten so many compliments. I am officially obsessed!

Favorite event I got to be a part of by interning at MISHA NICOLE: One of my final weeks working in the store, we had two events for the two artists that we are currently featuring; Carlo Sampietro of The Street is in the House and Adam O’Day. I immediately fell in love with both of these artists’s work, so these art openings were by far my favorite events. I loved the great mix of people they brought into the store and enjoyed getting to work surrounded by such beautiful fixtures.

Favorite thing about working for MISHA NICOLE: If I had to pick my one favorite thing to do on a normal work day at MISHA NICOLE, I would have to pick the days that I got to go along with Misha and Eve on vendor appointments. I loved getting to watch the process of choosing the perfect items to place in the store. It was also so much fun to get a look at the upcoming lines before they were actually in the stores.

THANKS SO MUCH! I had such a great summer in New York City and getting to work for a great company like MISHA NICOLE just made it that much better. Eve, Misha and Jon taught me so much in these past 3 months and I could not be more thankful for this opportunity. And to Jetty, Monica and Valentina, it was wonderful working with you ladies. You helped make work days even more fun! I just hope that when I open my store in the future (which is something I hope I get to do someday) it will be just as wonderful as this one!

Favorite MISHA NICOLE brand: Muubaa - their leather pieces are buttery soft and have incredibly unique and innovative detailing. I especially love their jackets and shorts!

Favorite thing about working for MISHA NICOLE: Getting so much hands-on experience in all aspects of the company and getting to work with so many great people. As the PR intern, I was able to create press releases, event invitations, update social media, and so much more. But even though my focus was Public Relations, I was given the opportunity to dabble in all areas - merchandising, styling, event planning - you name it! Plus, the MISHA NICOLE team made every day fun and exciting… oh, and I haven't even mentioned the amazing fashion!

Favorite MISHA NICOLE item in my closet: It has to be a tie between my Yumi Kim romper (left) and my Butter jumpsuit (right) - both are easy to wear, versatile, and seem to draw compliments wherever I go.

What fun events and experiences were you able to be a part of by interning at MISHA NICOLE? I had the opportunity to attend and help with so many different events: press conferences, trunk shows, book launches, and many more! One of my favorite experiences was working to plan the art exhibitions and openings that we held at the store. I love the blend of art and fashion at MISHA NICOLE - getting to work closely with the artists whose pieces we exhibit in the store was one of my favorite parts of the job. They are all such talented individuals with unique visions.

To sum it up… I've had the best summer living in New York and interning at MISHA NICOLE - the time has flown by! Big thank you's to my wonderful bosses, Misha, Eve, and Jon, for giving me this opportunity and teaching me endless amounts throughout the internship - and thank you to Olivia, Valentina, and Monica for always making work fun.

I will miss everyone so much, and will be counting down the days until I can return to the store again!

Favorite MISHA NICOLE Brand: Payal Singhal is a designer who has a keen eye for bringing just enough Indian bling to dresses and tops for a modern glam look. Her bold designs are eye-catching in a sophisticated manner, perfect for a night out or a fancy wedding.

Favorite MISHA NICOLE Event: We have had sooo many events since the store opened, it’s hard to pick a favorite! The most fun was probably the Sachin+Babi trunk show/cocktail party. There was a model showing off our favorite S+B looks and DJ Taiga of The Remixologists brought the party alive! Because it was also the week of our store opening, it was interesting to see what merchandise customers gravitated towards and eventually purchased.

MISHA NICOLE Item I’ve been eyeing all summer: The Temperley London Long Ronnie dress has an incredibly feminine v-neck cut with a contrast waist tie. I love how the print is shabby chic – it doesn’t try too hard but looks comfy and special all at the same time.

Goodbye MISHA NICOLE! The summer has been a blast! I’ve learned so much from Eve, Misha and Jon, and I can’t wait to apply all the knowledge/skills to my future career. Thanks also to the rest of the team (Valentina, Sara, and Olivia) for being so much fun!

"All great things have small beginnings" - Peter Senge

I can’t believe it’s here. Last year, today, MISHA NICOLE showcased their first Fashion Show, Global Runway’s Night Out. The Fashion Show combined apparel and accessories from designers straight off of the runway from Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai, Wills Fashion Week in New Delhi and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York. By integrating and infusing these elements together for each look, we were showing how a fashion consumer with a global sensibility should dress - this is the MISHA NICOLE aesthetic.

The show was a roaring success with 80+ International Press people, over 200 tickets were sold out (proceeds went to the Indo American Arts Council – a non-profit organization) and we got fantastic reviews. This was the beginning of MISHA NICOLE.

The day following Global Runway’s Night Out, we continued to have mini Pop Up Shop events to maintain the momentum while gearing up for the opening of the MISHA NICOLE concept store. It is exactly one year later from this time, construction is complete in our fabulous new space at 303 Bowery, and we are setting up the store!

Thank you to all of you that have supported us through out this past year! We look to seeing our old friends as well as fresh, new faces in our new MISHA NICOLE space.

We are very excited about all that we have accomplished and that we are able to provide for you! We will keep you posted about the opening in the next couple of weeks!

The bindi has become a personal style statement for MISHA NICOLE. Integrated into our logo, it represents our love for global flavor & talent rich in other countries and our mission to celebrate it by adapting the merchandise to the US consumer's wardrobe. Below is an example from our fashion show, Global Runway's Night Out!

And we're extremely excited to see that the bindi has been everywhere lately! Traditionally a marriage symbol, the bindi has become a style statement for international celebrities, adorning the faces of Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, and Willow Smith.

Gwen Stefani popularized bindis in the 90's when she wore it in her music videos for the album Tragic Kingdom as well as on and off the red carpet.

Katy Perry cleverly accessorized her open-back dress with a gold bindi at the 2010 Grammy Awards. It's the perfect amount of glamour to highlight her gown.

Alicia Keys adorned her face with a similar accessory to the 2008 American Music Awards. She wore a silver diamond-shaped tikka, which is a bindi dangling from a chain.

And most recently, Willow Smith donned a crystal bindi at her performance of 21st Century Girl on Oprah. It's awesome to see that the next generation is starting to appreciate Indian culture too!

The tasting dinner presents a sampling of the culinary artistry of Taj Hotel’s award-winning Executive Chef Hemant Oberoi drawn from dishes he developed for service at Maximum India, the festival celebrating India’s rich tradition of arts and culture at Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center through March 20.

The past 4 months working with Misha, Eve, and Jon, the creative geniuses and close knit partners of the concept store, has been an experience unlike others I have had in my varied posts within the fashion industry in India. Having worked for 5 years before regressing into a student again meant starting from scratch. No one could have helped me to learn the ropes better than the team at MISHA NICOLE. I was always made to feel like my advice and former experience was of the utmost value to the brand and I was a very important member of the team. The partners have a wonderful relationship and apart from being passionate about the products and very professional in their management, also have a wonderful, humorous approach to all problems and big decisions which I would love to emulate in my future ventures. The team has such an enormous bank of knowledge and skills that they bring to the table, and are always willing and happy to impart. From Pop-Up shops, to ad campaign photoshoots and vendor appointments - each experience has been a valuable learning process but also really, really fun.

Let me now talk about the most important part of MN – the fabulous, unique pieces that are now being sold in their temporary pop-up shop until they take New York by storm when the store finally opens its gates on the Bowery early this year (I cannot wait!!). Having worked as a buyer myself, I can really appreciate the time and effort that goes into selecting pieces unique to the store – in this case each piece is one-of-a kind, fun, yet easy to wear and timeless which is so intrinsically a part of the company aesthetic and philosophy. My favourite pieces in the collection would definitely be the Muubaa leather jackets, the Bita Pourtavoosi stacked rings, the Namrata Joshipura sequin tops, and the Navar separates. And the accessories, I cannot forget the fabulous accessories, some of which have been sourced from the remotest of places in India and are so beautifully merchandised with the rest of the store.

Wow, I knew this day would come but I was hoping that it wouldn't...

Today is my last day interning at MISHA NICOLE and this means that it is officially time for me to go back home to Seattle, Washington where I will finish my last year of school. My heart truly breaks at the thought of leaving New York City, my new friends and this incredible experience-building internship--but, I will be returning the second that I throw my cap into the air!

However, before I say all of my goodbyes and farewells, I thought that I'd leave you with some parting words to sum up my MISHA NICOLE experience. So, here are some questions that my new bestie (and fellow MISHA NICOLE intern) Alexis, asked me to answer...ENJOY!

1.) What was your favorite thing about working for MISHA NICOLE?

Can I only pick one? Well, in that case...

Because the fashion industry is so vast, I am still trying to figure out what avenue to pursue. My favorite thing about working for MISHA NICOLE is how hands-on of an experience this was. Unlike most fashion internships which consist of clothing check-ins, returns and other surface-level work, this internship allowed me opportunities to see into various career paths within the field including styling, public relations, design and buying. I was invited to everything from meetings to events, and gained so much invaluable knowledge that you just cannot learn from sitting in a classroom. It was also very rewarding to be given tasks and projects that were meaningful and necessary, once you completed them you could actually see the fruits of your labor and know that what you did was extremely helpful.

The MISHA NICOLE team really listened to my requests as to what I wanted to get out of this internship and my hopeful expectations were not only met, but exceeded. I am truly grateful!

2.) What did you learn this summer that you are excited about?

What I learned this summer that most excited me was being exposed to such amazing talent in the form of international/unknown designers. We have all experienced the beauty that is Dior, Prada, Louis Vuitton but they are all readily accessible in your local high-end department stores and boutiques. There are so many untapped designers all around the world that are not represented in the United States and therefore are left unacknowledged in a market that is craving this sense of uniqueness. I learned about The Furies, an LA based brand that does basic tees, tanks, leggings and more with a funky twist. The Furies could be an alternative to let's say Alexander Wang. And then there's Manish Arora (who we blogged about recently) who is easily one of my new favorite designers and is comparable to McQueen or Galliano. He is an amazing talent, yet before interning with MISHA NICOLE I had never, not once, even heard his name. It is sad that so much beauty is currently undetected but don't fret because MISHA NICOLE is bringing these designs to us! YAY!

3.) What is your favorite MISHA NICOLE brand?

I think, based on my personal style, my favorite MISHA NICOLE brand is Navar. I fell in love with the ease and subtle sophistication, the second I saw pieces from the collection. It's beautiful yet simple--but pair the silk pocket tee (pictured below) with some Antik Batik leather pants and vintage jewelry and you've just completed an edgy look--awesome!

4.) Why is the MISHA NICOLE store unique from other stores in NYC?

MISHA NICOLE is unique from other stores because it's not just a store, it's an experience.

It is a chance to open your eyes not only to under-represented fashion designers, but also other medias, art forms and cultures.

MISHA NICOLE is not another cookie-cutter outlet for designer goods.

It is separating itself from the pack as a distinctive retail AND event space.

Most notably too, is their desire to give back by partnering with different non-profit organizations and doing events to raise money.

5.) What fun events and experiences were you able to be a part of by interning for MISHA NICOLE?

Although the job was a lot of hard work and wasn't always glamourous, we definitely had time for fun! The first event I attended as a MISHA NICOLE intern was the Your DIL (Development in Literacy-an organization which provides quality education to children in under developed regions) event. MISHA NICOLE was one of the main sponsors and the whole team as well as everyone who attended had such a great time!!

Another amazing opportunity was going to the Asia Society Crafts Counsel event. The IAAC (Indo American Arts Counsil) helped bring in a bunch of Indian craftsmen and we watched as they walked us through the process of hand-making these special prints, scarves and jewelry. It was so eye opening! I never before realized the immensely detailed intricacies of their work...some of which take them months and even years to complete! It was fascinating, but even more so that prices are still so low considering this level of detail and hard work.

Well, I could probably go on forever about my internship with MISHA NICOLE but I have some more work to complete before my day is over. I want to take this time to thank my amazing bosses Misha, Eve and Jon for offering me this opportunity and giving me the tools to be successful not only in a career in fashion but also in life.

Never Before Seen In the United States!!

On August 17th, the MISHA NICOLE team went to a free outdoor Indian dance performance that was put on by the IAAC (Indo-American Arts Counsel) and the Battery Dance Company. We saw three different types of dance including Kuchipudi, Odissi and Kathakali, of which has never before been seen in the United States! It was so awesome!

Kuchipudi and Odissi dancers:

The featured performance was Kathakali, a classical Indian dance-drama form that is celebrated for its color saturated make-up and elaborate costumes. Clips from ancient stories of love and war from epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata are re-lived and intensely excavated for their emotional and philosophic meanings. Based on performance traditions that trace back to the 16th century in what is now known as India’s southern state of Kerala, Katha (story) and Kali (play) speaks to us through its language of sounds, colors, enlarged facial and hand gestures and action.

This makeup took 4 hours to apply!!

Look at the amazing and intricate costumes! We are so inspired by the vibrant colors and detail!

What a beautiful day, out under the sun to be watching this show!!
